Texas Farmer and Rancher Cooperative Mentoring
The Texas Rural Cooperative Center (TRCC) has been providing ongoing, in-depth support to farmers and ranchers in Texas since 2002. This project is specifically geared towards providing assistance to people looking to start cooperatives. This aid comes in the form of outreach, consultation, governance support, and collaboration with the Tip of Texas Agriculture Producers Farmers Cooperative Society, and the Frontera Farmers Coalition.
The goal of this project is to increase cooperative development in the agricultural sector of Texas.
One ongoing project of TRCC’s…
Is that of assisting a collective of meat producers seeking to establish a cooperative for a meat processing facility. There are few facilities in Texas as of now and these meat producers aim to resolve this issue by building their own in South Texas.
A lovely example…
Of a Texas agricultural cooperative is Central Texas Farmers. This collective sought to implement sustainable environmental and economic practices for the benefit of their community and did it!
